March 14, 1960 – October 11, 2022

Sue Hansen passed away of an aggressive lung cancer surrounded by family and friends. Sue was born and raised in Clinton, Iowa. Sue’s love of the mountains was inspired from her ski trips to Colorado while growing up. Sue attended University of Colorado before moving to Steamboat Springs in 1982. During her years here she was an avid mountain and road biker, cross country, alpine skier, and always a hiker, even during her battle with cancer.

Sue inherited her love of travel from her mother, Erika. Sue enjoyed traveling throughout this country and other countries around the world. Her favorite trips were with her son, Dustin, exploring everything from rivers, seas, and mountains of Europe to the beaches of Hawaii and California.

Sue’s caring spirit and generous heart could be felt by all who knew her. She was a lover of the outdoors and spent much of her time in the mountains enjoying the serene beauty they encompass. Sue was one with nature, especially amongst the wildflowers, which brought out the happy and free spirit that defined her. She was a bright and shining soul, and a reminder to live fully with eyes wide open. Sue was a beacon of light and a steward in the community whose dedication towards all things good will be appreciated for years to come.

A celebration of life is planned on Sunday, October 16 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at Olympian Hall (845 Howelsen Parkway). In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Friends of the Yampa.
