Obituary: Mary Smith

Mary Beth (Elizabeth) Smith passed on November 10, 2024. She was the daughter of James and Coye Taylor. Mary Beth was born July 20, 1940 in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas and family moved to River Rouge, Michigan in 1941. She grew up in River Rouge graduating from River Rouge High School in 1958. She also graduated from Detroit Business Institute. Mary Beth married Richard Jerry Smith August 24, 1963. They lived in Ypsilanti, MI while Jerry attended Eastern Michigan University. After he graduated with Bachelors and Masters degrees, they moved to Colorado. They lived in the Greeley / Eaton area for several year before the family (Jerry, Mary Beth, Beth and Patrick) moved to Steamboat Springs. In Steamboat, they built a log home, joined 4-H and raised sheep. They also enjoyed hiking, camping and fishing in the mountains. Mary Beth worked at the Yampa Valley Medical Center for 23 years. After retiring, in 2012, Mary Beth moved to South Lyon Michigan. Mary Beth enjoyed reading, birdwatching, horseback riding and hiking/walking. She enjoyed being a member of her book club. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Jerry in 1993, her sister Carolyn, brother Jimmy and nephew Jim. She is survived by daughter Elizabeth (Beth) Ann Smith in Fort Collins, CO and son Patrick Aaron Smith, daughter-in-law Tracey, grandsons Jeremy, AJ and Cody in South Lyon, MI. She is also survived by her sister Virginia Martin, brother-in-law Terry Martin, nieces Sarah Shumate (husband Stephen and daughter Nikki) and Laura Stephens (husband Joseph), Maribeth Frank (husband Jerrod and children Ryan and Carly). Mary Beth requested no service, just a private family goodbye. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Frazer Cremations and Funerals.
