Jonathan David Hands 25 year resident of Steamboat, passed away of natural causes on May 6, 2024. He was surrounded by loved ones and family. Jon was born on January 21, 1954, the youngest of four children, to Phyllis L and Dr Alexander Hands in Whittier, California. He is survived by his brother Paul Hands of Steamboat Spgs and Seaside OR, sister Jane (Coco)Browne of Laguna Nigel CA, God-Daughter Corinne (Hands) Sanders of Portland OR, Jonmichael Hands of Folsom, CA. Jonny had the happy childhood of a doctor’s son. He lived with his mother in Sunset Beach CA, graduated high school at Corona Del Mar High, after attending Taymouth Castle School in Scotland, and Seal Beach H.S. He graduated from Ripon College in Ripon, WI, studied Archeology at U of Arizona, Tucson, teachers’ college at Chapman College in Fullerton CA, and became a high school teacher at the Regional Occupational Center in Santa Ana, CA. Jon moved to Steamboat Spgs, CO in 1997, after extensive visits here in the ’70’s and ’80’s. He lived here half of 1975, working as a waiter at the Holiday Inn restaurant. He worked for the Steamboat Pilot 5+ years, graded G.E.D. students for a decade, (having worked with a group of Steamboat’s most esteemed retired educators) was Steamboat’s ‘ground man’ here for Vario & River Press, Italian Importers, international fine art printing, production and dealers. He was a dedicated Lift-Up Volunteer, making the rounds of food stores all through Steamboat. He was also a prolific reader with a large library, a U.S. history buff, lifelong guitar player, and an English ‘Snuff” enthusiast. Jon learned to play the guitar in middle school and remained a player for life. He and partner Kathleen Fitzsimmons sang and played at various functions, among them the Annual Realtor Christmas Dinner, art-show openings, and the Hahn’s Peak Cafe. Jon revelled in the quiet serenity of their ranch-life north of Steamboat. Jon was known and will be remembered for his knowledge, his music, his quiet goodness, sense of humor, good attitude and willingness to help others.
A private memorial service was held on 9/1/24
