Christopher Sumskis

November 15, 1950 – September 11, 2020

Our friend the cantankerous, somewhat inappropriate, and always funny (sometimes at your expense) Jeffrey Christopher Sumskis, “Sumpy” passed away on September 11 in his apartment in Meeker, Colorado.

He was most proud of his long career on ski patrol and as a building inspector for Routt County. He was loved by so many, and cherished by few (haha), but will be dearly missed as his heart was kind and his soul was deep. Sumpy moved to Steamboat in 1972 after attending Ohio State University and receiving a degree in Journalism. He joined the Steamboat Ski Patrol in 1979 and enjoyed 20+ years saving lives, shenanigans, and skiing with his best friends. He loved music, Harleys, skiing, his dogs and his friends.

He is survived by his Daughter Kolby K. Susmkis and his new granddaughter Kyle Paisley Bourque.

For those near and far, we will hold a toast to Sumpy at 6pm mst. on Thursday September 24th. If you are far or want to join in from elsewhere please set your clocks. Please if you can take a pic of your cheers post it or email it to kolbysumskis@gmail.com

If you are in Steamboat and want to stand (socially distanced) please join us at Browns farms for beer, wine, food and live music at 5:00pm today.
