Blanche Naomi Chadwick Martens
Blanche Naomi (Ellgen) Chadwick Martens, 96, was born March 14, 1919, at the Round Bottom Ranch on the Yampa River, outside Craig Colorado. She passed from her earthly life on Sunday, November 8, 2015, six days after a fall. Blanche’s parents were Herman (III) and Elizabeth Ellgen. She had three brothers, Lorence (Raeola) of Craig, CO, Philip (Fay) of Brigham City, UT and Joseph Dale Ellgen who died shortly after birth.
She loved growing up on the ranch. She learned to trick ride, helped her mother can 1000 quarts of fruit and vegetables from the garden every year and milked the cows. She would ride her horse to the cousins by herself 7 miles away when she was 6. She went to College in California to become a dietitian.
She married Robert Raymond Chadwick on November 2, 1941 in Craig CO. To this union four children were born; R Dale Chadwick (Dorothy) from Lancaster PA, R Gale Chadwick (Judy) from Wellington CO, N Kay Payton (Mike) from Ft Collins CO and R Kent Chadwick (LuAnn) from Choteau MT. She had 18 grandchildren, 51 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson. She enjoyed traveling to visit her widespread family.
She was a business woman in Fort Collins for many years owning the Uniform Shop on College Ave. She was a wonderful seamstress. She was hired by the Denver Broncos to take care of their uniforms during their practice sessions. She continued to sew for herself and others into her 80’s.
She married Hugh Auldin Knox on December 1, 1965 and Mark Marcotte on November 26, 1981. They preceded her in death. She married Herbert William Martens on January 5, 1988. They served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Kentucky Louisville Mission. He preceded her in death.
She was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in many capacities. She was very social and loved to visit with anyone about anything but especially loved to talk about her family, church and the ranch.
The services will be held Friday November 13th at 1pm. There will be a viewing from 12noon – 12:45 prior to the service. The service will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1320 W Harmony Rd, Fort Collins CO 80526 Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery.
