Herbert Montieth

Longtime Routt County resident, Herbert M. Montieth, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2015.

Herb was born October 11, 1931, in Mount Harris, CO to Ida and Samuel Montieth. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Montieth ; his son Sam (Patty) Montieth of Craig, daughter Pam (Mel) Hoffman of Grand Junction, daughter Ruby (Troy) Wertenberger of Hayden, and daughter Sandra Montieth of Hayden; grandchildren April Chavira, Chris Hoffman, Tara Hoffman, Heather Wertenberger, Braylin Wertenberger; 9 great grandchildren; sister, Ruby DeLuca , brothers Jim Montieth and George Montieth, all of Hayden and many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Sam and Ida Montieth; brothers Bill Montieth and Ed Montieth; sisters Julia Waddle, Norma Rolando and Doris Rutherford; and grandson Dwayne Montieth.

Herb married Barbara Benson on September 8, 1953, and to this union four children were born. Herb and Barbara were happily married for 61 inseparable years.

Herb served in the US Air Force. Upon his return he worked in Denver as a general contractor for EB Jones building several schools. For the remainder of his employment he worked for the State of Colorado Highway Department. The last years with the Highway Department he served as the State Bridge Inspector.

While living in Hayden Herb was very involved in the community. He served terms on the Town Board, School Board, and was also a volunteer fireman. He also helped out with the local law enforcement when needed. He will be missed by all his family and many friends.
