Douglas Daryl Grinolds

Douglas Daryl Grinolds passed away suddenly at his home in Craig, CO at the age of 81 on December 22, 2014. Services were held Saturday, Dec. 27, 2014 at the Faith Lutheran Church, Palermo, with interment following at the Rest Haven Cemetery in Palermo, ND. Doug was born to Harold and Ella (Dokken) Grinolds in Palermo, ND on March 11, 1933. Doug married his high school sweetheart, Vivian Ostdahl, on November 1, 1953 and celebrated 61 years of marriage this past November. Doug retired in 2010 after 51 years of working in the oil and gas industry. He gained a love of horses as a young boy. His main passion was found on the race track where he trained and raced thoroughbreds. He passed on his love and passion to his boys and grandkids. Doug had an infectious laugh and outgoing personality. He was an incredible man who always had a story or a joke to tell. Doug is survived by his wife, Vivian; sister, Hazel Grinolds of Roseville, CA; sons, Larry (Glendy) of Salt Lake City, UT, Rodney (Jeri) of Cody, WY, Kelly (Regina) of Craig, CO, Keith (Mindy) of Loma, CO and daughter, Cindy (Brett) Winder of Grand Junction, CO; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Doug was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Ella; brothers, Harold “Ole”, Robert “Snob”, Donald “John”; sisters Blanche “Sis” Vesey and Marjorie Cleve; son, Gary “Shorty” Grinolds and of course Doug’s precious dog, Sissy.
