LaVance A. Norton, 89, of Beloit, WI, formerly of Craig, CO, died Sunday, June 29, 2014 in Premier Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing.

She was born December 14, 1924 in Ellis, KS the daughter of Adison and Agnes (Kutina) Rountree. LaVance was a graduate of Ellis High School, Ellis, KS. She married William Woodbury and together they had three children. He predeceased her. She then married Thomas Norton. He predeceased her. Later LaVance married Charles Talkington. He also predeceased her.

LaVance was formerly employed by Rock Island Railroad, Consolidated Office Supply, Northern Colorado Museum and many book stores.

LaVance was a member of the Boom Town Players in Craig, CO., and Union Pacific Railroad Old Timer's Club.

She loved the mountains. LaVance was content just driving around and looking for animals. She always found a place she loved to fish wherever she lived, whether it was Stagecoach near Craig, Colorado or a catfish pond in Kansas. LaVance loved community theatre in Craig Colorado and was a member of Boomtown Players. She loved books, all kinds, especially books on Colorado history. LaVance loved music and was a member of Sweet Adeline’s and sang. She was an accomplished golfer, winning 100’s of trophies, and continued the sport until her hands became terribly arthritic. LaVance was quite the bowler and had many perfect games throughout the years. During World War II she went to a vocational school to learn to weld. She was very crafty. I think everyone will miss her candy plates at Christmas! LaVance had many talents and was never afraid to try something new. She had many pets throughout her life but one ended up being her favorite – Muffy, her dog. She often dreamed of Muffy, long after Muffy had passed away.
