Allan E. Klingenberg, beloved father, grandfather, brother, husband and friend, departed life on February 2nd, 2014 at St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood, CO. Allan was born May 19th, 1955 in Belleville, IL. to Earl and Alice Klingenberg. In 1978, he married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Stephens at Saint Agatha Catholic Church in New Athens. In his years working as a surveyor for Peabody Coal Company he and Barbara gave birth to three beautiful children; Amie, Sara and Adam.
In 1990 Allan and his family relocated from southern Illinois to Steamboat Springs, CO. An avid hunter, fisherman and skier, Allan always had a love for the outdoors. He is remembered for having an infectious sense of humor, a profound loyalty to friends and unmistakable devotion to his immediate and extended family. Undeniably, Allan's spirit touched the lives of many.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Alice Schmidt and father Earl Klingenberg both of Okawville, IL. He is survived by Barbara Hayes of Hayden, CO., two daughters, Amie Goeldner and her husband, Michael Goeldner of El Paso, TX., and Sara Moser and her husband, Kris Moser of Seattle, WA.; son Adam Klingenberg of Henderson, CO. Two brothers, Larry Klingenberg of Farmington, NM., and Kenneth Klingenberg of Georgetown, ID., sister, Janice Klingenberg of Kailua-Kona,HI., two grandchildren, Brayden and Ella Goeldner and mother-in-law, Patricia Russell of Belleville, IL along with many dear friends.
A formal service open to family and friends will be held at Saint Agatha Catholic Church in New Athens, IL on May 17th. A private ceremony will be held in the mountains of Idaho where Allan's wishes will be honored in spreading his ashes in the area of his favorite elk hunting spot. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations in memory of Allan to woundedwarriorproject.org.
