William H. Brewer

William H. (Bill) Brewer was born April 28, 1947, in Vancouver, Wash., to William G. and Dorothy Padgett Brewer. Bill passed away Feb. 20, 2013, in Layton, Utah. Services were held Feb. 23, 2013.
Bill's younger years were spent in Vancouver, Wash., and Canon Beach and Seaside, Ore. He loved the coast.
Bill moved to Craig in 1964 and graduated from Moffat County High School in 1965. He returned to Washington and married Beverly Thomas in June 1967. To this union, son William Todd Brewer was born.
After his marriage to Beverly, Bill married Ellen Vanderveen. The couple had two children, William Chad and Kelsey Dawn.
For the past 17 years Bill has shared his life with Margaret Arnold in Layton, Utah. Margie was the love of his life and encouraged him through failing health and the loss of his leg from diabetes in 2009.
Bill was ambitious and able to accomplish anything he set his mind to. He was an excellent welder and enjoyed creating ornamental iron railings and trailers. For a time, he owned Iron Decor in Craig.
Bill spent several years working alongside his dad, logging in the mountains of Colorado. He worked as an over-the-road truck driver and was part owner in Brewer & Sons Trucking, hauling oil out of Nevada and Utah with his dad and his brother, Greg.
Bill also worked as a mechanic, tree trimmer and carpenter. He helped build a cabin at Wilderness Ranch and a home in Vancouver. One of his greatest accomplishments was helping to design and having the exclusive manufacturing rights for the Woodland Stove. He spent many years in this endeavor. He built a beautiful stone fireplace at Cedar Golf Course, also in Vancouver.
Bill loved fast cars, boats, sandrails and motorcycles. He owned many cars, including classics. A black '67 Corvette was among his favorites. He also had a collection of hundreds of Hot Wheels toy cars. He enjoyed camping, boating, skiing, sandrailing, watching NASCAR and Indy 500 races, which he had attended in person. He liked Western movies, car shows, barbecuing, hunting and spending time outdoors.
Bill looked forward to spending time with family, friends, and especially his grandchildren. He realized his dream to attend the Sturgis motorcycle rally in 2011 with his brother, Greg. He made sure to get a hat to prove it. It would be the last such trip he was able to take, and he treasured the memories.
Family describes Bill as ambitious, creative, passionate, meticulous, stubborn, handsome, loving, funny, caring, tenderhearted and, again, stubborn — a Brewer trait!
Bill was preceded in death by his father, Bill; his mother, Dorothy; and his grandbaby, Shelby Fritz.
He is survived by and will be greatly missed by his sweetheart, Margaret; sons Todd (Cherl) and Chad (Melissa), and daughter Kelsey Brewer-Rick, all of Vancouver, Wash.; stepmother Jerry Brewer, of Craig; sisters Vickie (E.J.) McCarry, of Vancouver, Wash., Marilyn Hatzke, of Spokane, Wash., Cheryle (Leonard) Browning, Pat Doeden and Sherry (James) Marren, all of Craig, and Dana (Dale) Archuleta, of Sheridan, Wyo.; brothers Greg Brewer, of Craig, Jay Vallingham, Brian Vallingham and Mark Ryan, of Washington; and Margaret's children Shawna (Chris) Fritz and Tammy (John) Smithfield, of Utah. Between Bill and Margaret, they adored 12 grandchildren, one great-grandson and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. The family loves Bill and he will be sadly missed by all.
