Oak Creek schools briefly put on lock-out Wednesday

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — Schools in Oak Creek were briefly put on lock-out Wednesday while police searched for a suspicious man.

Police Chief Ralph Maher said his department received a report of a man looking through windows on Myers Street.

“We wanted to make sure he didn’t make it to the school,” Maher said.

The school was on lock-out for about 20 minutes starting at 1 p.m. During a lock-out, schools secure the perimeter of the buildings and make sure no one is allowed to enter the buildings without an escort.

Superintendent Rim Watson wrote in an email that there was never a direct threat to the school buildings.

Police were not able to find the suspicious man.
