OAK CREEK — A 58-year-old Oak Creek man was killed Saturday afternoon in an apparent freak accident that occurred while he was working on a car in his Willow Bend Court garage.

According to Routt County Coroner Rob Ryg, the man, whose identity is being withheld pending notification of his family, was working underneath a vehicle when something caused the supporting jack to give way.

“Basically … he was working on a classic car he’d been working on for several months, trying to get it ready for a car show, and as he came out, he did something that caused the jack to slip, and the car fell on top of him,” Ryg said.

The incident was called into Routt County Emergency Services at 3:34 p.m., and initially, it was not known how seriously the man had been injured. Ryg confirmed late Saturday afternoon the man had died.

Emergency response personnel from the Oak Creek Police Department and Oak Creek Fire and Rescue responded to the call, but neither agency was immediately available for comment.
