The Oak Creek Kodiaks youth hockey program captured two titles over the weekend in the 10U and 12U level at the Colorado Extreme Hockey Tournament in Craig.
Pinned against teams from Northwest Colorado and eastern Utah, the 10U team went undefeated with a 4-0 record in the tournament to bring home some hardware in the season finale.
“This was the most complete effort I have seen from this team all season and they really came to play this weekend,” said coach Zack Schafner in a news release. “It was a culmination of all the effort and hard work they have put in. I’m incredibly proud of these players.”
The 12U team from Oak Creek suffered an early loss against the team from Vernal, Utah, exacting revenge in the tournament championship on Sunday with a 4-2 win for the Kodiaks.
“The grit and resilience of this team is like nothing I have ever seen,” coach Kyle Pastor said in the release. “They inspire me with every shift.”
The tournament in Craig marks the end to a successful Kodiaks season. The program prides itself in character development and instilling values of being good people in the community and on the ice.
“These teams and this association are different than any team I have ever been a part of,” said Kodiaks Youth Development Director Chris Hagen. “They put in 110% to every aspect of their lives on and off the ice. They are amazing hockey players, amazing teams, and, most importantly, amazing people. I feel lucky to be their coach and I’m beyond words about their success this weekend.”
