Oak Creek approves purchase of downtown lot
Oak Creek — At its regular board of trustees meeting Thursday, the town of Oak Creek approved the purchase of a property adjacent to Elk’s Tavern on Main Street. The cost of the property is $40,000.
The lot, currently owned by James and Janet Williams, has been on the town’s radar since the couple approached the board about buying the property outright a few months back.
“The consensus of the board at the time was to enter into negotiations and determine what the terms were,” said Town Administrator Mary Alice Page-Allen. “The funding for the purchase of this project is coming from fees in lieu of parking funds, as well as capital reserves for parks. Basically, it’s a 50 percent parking lot, 50 percent downtown park.”
Thursday’s approval was only for the purchase of the lot, located at 101/103 E. Main Street. The actual usage and development of the lot will be part of future town board discussions, with the anticipation of presenting formal plans to the planning commission in October after the closing of the sale earlier that month.
“We thought it was a great spot, because we tend to use it all the time,” said Oak Creek Mayor Nikki Knoebel.
The motion to allow the purchase of the lot was approved unanimously. Changes to the 2015 supplemental budget were made at a board meeting earlier this month to accommodate the lot purchase.
Also Thursday, Oak Creek resident Drew Moon was granted a land use change of minor impact that allows him to operate a small engine and vehicle repair shop on his property at 208 Bell Avenue.
Also approved was a special events permit in the form of a liquor license for DitchFest, the town’s second annual music festival to be held Sept. 12 in Decker Park. The festival is managed by a local, private non-profit.
The next board of trustees meeting is scheduled for Sept. 10.
