Northwest Colorado Health offers free screening on World Diabetes Day

Northwest Colorado Health is recognizing World Diabetes Day by offering free drop in cardiovascular and diabetes screenings 8 a.m. to Noon Nov. 14 at Northwest Colorado Health, 940 Central Park Drive, Suite 101. Screenings include blood glucose test, cholesterol panel, blood pressure, body mass index and personalized education to help individuals prevent diabetes and heart disease. Area help available for insurance enrollment

Individuals who need health insurance or need to renew their plans must do so by Jan. 12. 

·         Financial help is available to lower monthly premiums in 2018.

·         Free in-person assistance is available to help you find the right plan.

·         If you’re already enrolled, you may need to renew your plan to retain coverage.   

·         There are tax penalties for not having health insurance in 2018.

·         You must enroll or renew your plan by Dec. 15 for coverage beginning Jan. 1. Jan. 12 is the last day to enroll for 2018 coverage.

Free breast exams available for qualified women

Women who are age 40 to 64 and have limited or no health insurance may qualify for free breast exams and cervical cancer screenings. In addition to meeting age and income requirements, women must live in Colorado, be legal residents (or legally present) in the U.S. and have not had a mammogram or Pap test in the last 12 months. YVMC receives “A” for patient safety in Fall 2017 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade

UCHealth Yampa Valley Medical Center received an “A” from The Leapfrog Group for its commitment to keeping patients safe and meeting the highest safety standards in the U.S. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign letter grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year. This is the fourth “A” in a row for YVMC.

Share your healthy recipes with the Steamboat Today

The Steamboat Today publishes simple, healthy recipes in the Yampa Valley Health section of the newspaper on Monday. Anyone who has a recipe that is easy-to-fix and made from commonly found ingredients is welcome to share it with the paper. Emergency Care at UCHealth Yampa Valley Medical Center consistently ranks among the 99th percentile for care, according to Press Ganey, a leading provider of patient experience measurement, performance analytics and strategic advisory solutions for health care organizations across the continuum of care. Specific areas of care, including care delivered by nurses and doctors, involvement of family/friends and overall assessment, also consistently ranks in the 99th percentile.
