Northwest Colorado BOCES hires next executive director

— The Northwest Colorado Board of Cooperative Educational Services has hired its next leader.

The BOCES board last week announced Amy Bollinger, a longtime educator, will start as executive director of the agency July 1.

Bollinger will take the reins from longtime Executive Director Jane Toothaker.

"She was an outstanding candidate," South Routt Superintendent Scott Mader said about Bollinger. "I think she’ll just bring some new vision to the BOCES, and probably take it to a different level."

Bollinger was one of five candidates for the job and was interviewed last month by BOCES and three local superintendents including Mader.

Based in Steamboat Springs, the Northwest Colorado BOCES serves the Steamboat Springs, Hayden and South Routt school districts along with four other districts in the region.

The agency provides the districts with specialized services that range from special education to speech and language therapy.

According to her resume, Bollinger started her career in education more than 20 years ago teaching fourth grade at the Misawa Air Force Base in Japan.

Most recently, she has worked as an alternative education teacher in the Park County School District.

"She is highly regarded by those who have worked with her including superintendents, school psychologists, office staff and other colleagues who describe her leadership skills, supervisory style, enthusiasm, professionalism and personal traits as someone well suited to lead our BOCES and member districts into the future," BOCES Board President Brian Hoza wrote in an email announcing Bollinger’s hire.

He added that her education includes a Bachelor of Science in special education from Indiana State University and a Master of Science in school administration from Louisiana State University.

A retirement event for Toothaker will be held May 31 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Catamount Ranch and Club.
