— A fundraising campaign to help pay down the building mortgage of the North Routt Preschool in Clark is making steady progress, with school supporters raising $27,000 during the past few months.

The school is aiming to raise $50,000 by June 1 to collect a $50,000 match from local philanthropists interested in helping the school pay down its $150,000 mortgage.

Owning the 2,400-square-foot building outright would provide long-term stability for the preschool program, according to school director Kerri Ann Crocker.

On Saturday, the school will hold an Easter egg hunt fundraiser, with money raised going specifically to the mortgage fund.

The Easter egg hunt and pancake breakfast will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Vista Verde Guest Ranch, 58000 Cowboy Way in Clark.

The event will include egg decorating, egg hunts for various ages, snowman building and cross country skiing on Vista Verde trails. There will also be a raffle and fire engines and a helicopter will be at the event.

Breakfast will be prepared by Vista Verde chefs.

The school, situated on Eagle Lane in Clark next door to North Routt Community Charter School, had a mortgage of about $200,000 when Crocker took over operations in 2012. She said the school has worked to whittle that number down since, though paying off the mortgage with fluctuating enrollment can be tricky.

As of December, the school had about 30 students enrolled, with about 20 attending on average each day, and a capacity for 26 per day.
