Nordic skiers tally 2 Nationals podiums

— Steamboat Springs Nordic skiers came away with a pair of second-place finishes and a fifth to highlight the first day of competition Monday in the United States Ski and Snowboard Association Cross Country Junior Nationals event in Truckee, California.

Lars Hannah, at the U20 level, and Noel Keeffe, at U16, both flew through the qualification rounds of what was the first event of a week of racing, a 1.2-kilometer sprint race.

They advanced through the quarterfinals, then the semis, and both narrowly missed out on championships, earning second-place finishes on a warm California day.

Jordi Floyd, in the girls U16 division, had a strong day, as well, racing in the elite field to the finals race, and then to fifth place.

Elsewhere, Kathleen O’Connell was 26th and Anna Burkholder 28th at the women’s U18 division. Evan Weinman was 23rd among U20 men’s skiers. Finn O’Connell was 50th, Simon Zink 59th and Evan Barbier 61st in the men’s U18 race, and Tyler Terranova was 29th, Wyatt Gebhardt 35th and Jimmy Colfer 37th at the U16 level.
