— She was among the fastest all season, so in the end, it wasn’t much surprise.

It was still a huge accomplishment as Avery Harrington claimed the overall Rocky Mountain Nordic division season championship last weekend in the U14 girls division.

Waverly Gebhardt was second in that overall ranking and Reilly Mewborn third.

Those results were made official after the inaugural Rocky Mountain Nordic U14 Cross Country Skiing Championships in Crested Butte.

Harrington won her race, leading the way for a strong pack of U14 girls skiers. Gebhardt was third and Mewborn fourth. Anna Terranova placed 10th, Katy Floyd 11th, Elise Barbier 18th and Emma Stewart 19th.

On the boys side, Cooper Jones was eighth, Chase High 10th, Chase Weynand 19th and Gabe Rabanal 29th.

At the U12 level, Wally Magill was fourth in the boys race and Sidney Barbier ninth in the girls race.

Grey Barbier won the U10 boys division with a dramatic lunge at the finish line, beating his rival by 0.8 seconds. That left him tied with Vail’s Connor Wilson for the overall championship. Henry Magill was 10th in that division’s race.
