Non-league loss doesn’t deter Soroco boys basketball

— A loss is a loss, no matter how you shake it, but a non-league defeat down the pinnacle stretch of the season doesn't sting so bad for Soroco High School boys basketball.

The Rams (8-8, 3-5 league) traveled to Rangely on Thursday night looking to shake things up a bit in their offensive and defensive sets, but the Panthers got the edge, beating Soroco, 50-37.

"You never want to lose any time of the year," Soroco coach Jake Eskridge said. "But it was a non-league game, and we went over to work on some different things. That's how you have to approach it. It'd be easy to look at it and think it's terrible, but we got to work on things we haven't had a chance to before."

Eskridge said his team's offensive sets were off and the shots simply wouldn't fall during a game in which Rangely caught fire at times.

The Rams were led by senior Ryan Jeep's 19 points. Warren Hayes also picked up five points for Soroco.

Soroco will be back in action Friday night at home against De Beque. Tipoff is at 5 p.m.
