No serious injuries in Rabbit Ears Pass Crash

— No one was seriously injured after a Wednesday afternoon crash on Rabbit Ears Pass.

Colorado State Patrol Sgt. Coby Smart said a sport-utility vehicle and a Pepsi semi were both driving westbound near Dumont Lake when the SUV slowed and began turning left toward the lake. At the same time, the semi was attempting to pass and struck the driver’s side door of the SUV.

Both vehicles went off the road and blocked the eastbound lane of traffic for a couple hours.

The driver of the semi was from Craig and was not injured.

The four people in the SUV were from Iowa and were taken to Yampa Valley Medical Center.

Three of them had minor injuries. The driver had to be extricated from the SUV. She had a broken wrist and bruising.

The SUV sustained extensive damage.

“Everybody was lucky that day,” Smart said.

The driver of the semi was cited for reckless driving causing injury.
