No decision made on Lafarge gravel pit in south valley

Staff Reports

— The Routt County Board of Commissioners adjourned Tuesday night’s meeting at midnight without comment after hearing presentations regarding a proposed gravel pit in South Routt County.

Lafarge Corp. has proposed mining 100 acres of land on the More Ranch about six miles south of Steamboat Springs on the east side of Colorado 131.

County commissioners heard presentations from Lafarge, citizens groups and the city of Steamboat Springs regarding the proposed pit. Public comment was taken until midnight, when commissioners adjourned the meeting.

Tuesday night’s meeting was the second half of the conceptual planning process.

County commissioners plan to meet again next Tuesday at 7 p.m. at a place yet to be determined. After that meeting, company officials will decide if they want to move forward in the four-meeting permitting process.
