The Boulder-based nine-piece band has created Spanish aliases for their onstage performances and are thought of as “Desi Arnaz on acid.” Cabaret Diosa is a replica of a 1950s Cuban band with drums, clarinet, piano, trumpet, ukelele, bass, saxophones, flute, organ, viola, coronet and different forms of percussion. Susan Tedeschi performs a free concert at 6 p.m. at Howelsen Hill Amphitheater. Immersing herself in the Boston blues scene allowed Tedeschi (pronounced Tuh-DES-kee) to gather a large following in order to create the Susan Tedeschi Band in ’93. After winning blues awards around the country, Tedeschi has found success with “Just Won’t Burn.” Her bluesy voice has been compared to that of Janis Joplin and Bonnie Raitt, but she brings her own electric guitar style to the stage.Tedeschi found herself in the same Best New Artist group with teen-pop nominees Britney Spears, Macy Gray, Christina Aguilera and Kid Rock at the 2000 Grammys.

The Slopeside Summer Concert Series, in conjunction with Wake the Dead music, presents Meadowlark Jivin’ opening for The Young Dubliners. Also known as The Young Dubs, acoustic guitar player and lead singer Keith Roberts creates American rock favorites with a twist of Irish roots seeping through the cracks. Only two members of the six-piece band are Irish and Roberts said it’s mostly the instrumentation that gives The Young Dubs an Irish flare (mandolin, tin whistle, fiddle and flute). The instrumental funk Boston-based band The Freelance Bishops play at the Tugboat. This funk, soul, jazz and boogaloo five-piece band is reminiscent of the soul-jazz combos of the 1960s and the harder funk of the 1970s claiming they’re “music for your mind and booty.” With influences like John Scofield, Herbie Hancock and The Meters, The Bishops have set tight grooves with room to improvise.
