Newspaper wants to share in celebrations
Children can join the Birthday Club
Editor’s note: As of 2019, please submit Birthday Club photos to share@SteamboatPilot.com. Photos will be printed on Wednesdays as space allows.
Steamboat Springs — The Steamboat Pilot & Today is introducing a new feature designed to recognize area children on their birthdays.
The Steamboat Birthday Club will appear each Sunday in the Style section of the Pilot & Today.
The Birthday Club will list the names and photos of children whose birthdays are upcoming or occurred recently.
“Our desire is to provide the residents of the community with another outlet to recognize their children,” Editor Scott Stanford said. “For children, there are few things more exciting than their birthdays or having their photos printed in the newspaper.
“The Birthday Club gives children the opportunity to enjoy both.”
The Birthday Club is tentatively scheduled to be launched on Aug. 19, depending on response to the free service.
Parents or guardians can send photos of their children to the Pilot & Today for publication in the Birthday Club.
Photos should be sent to Birthday Club, Steamboat Pilot & Today, PO Box 774827, Steamboat Springs, Colo., 80477.
Photos may also be dropped off at the Pilot & Today office at 1901 Curve Plaza, or photos may be e-mailed to newsclerk@steamboatpilot.com.
The following guidelines will apply to the Birthday Club:
There is no charge for the Birthday Club.
The Birthday Club is open to children ages 1 through 12.
Each photo must be accompanied by the child’s name, birth date and the phone number of a parent or guardian who can verify the child’s birthday.
Photos received in advance of a child’s birthday will be published on the Sunday preceding the child’s birthday. Photos must be received by 5 p.m. Wednesday to ensure publication in the Sunday newspaper.
Photos of children whose birthdays have already passed will be accepted; however, no photos of children whose birthdays are more than two weeks old will be published.
Photos will not be returned by mail unless a stamped, self-addressed envelope is provided. Parents or guardians may pick up photos at the Pilot & Today office after publication.
“In our readership surveys, one of the things readers consistently tell us they want more of is pictures and stories about their children,” Stanford said. “The Birthday Club is one of the ways we can help meet that demand.”
For questions about the Birthday Club, readers should contact Stanford at 871-4221 or by e-mail at sstanford@steamboatpilot.com.
