Academy Leadership accepting applications
Applications are being accepted for an Academy Leadership Program, open to high school seniors and conducted by instructors from the U.S. Air Force Academy. The applications are available at high school guidance offices and must be handed in by Oct. 15. The program, which is free, will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Jan. 9 at the Depot Art Center.
Pilot & Today hosts forum on election with KRMR
The Steamboat Pilot & Today and KRMR radio will host a pair of election forums Oct. 15. A midday forum will be from noon to 2 p.m. at Centennial Hall and an evening forum will be from 7 to 9 p.m. at Olympian Hall. Because of the number of Steamboat Springs City Council and School Board candidates attending and several ballot issues that will be discussed, questions will not be accepted from the audience during the forums. Instead, residents are encouraged to submit questions in advance to firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com by today. The questions posed to candidates during the forums will be chosen from those received by the newspaper and KRMR radio.
Library seeks volunteers for Halloween party
Bud Werner Memorial Library is seeking parent and teen volunteers to help with its annual Halloween party for children. The party will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Steamboat Springs Community Center. The library needs help with snacks, decorations, setup, supervision and cleanup. Call 879-0240.
Health and Recreation offers free swim session
The Steamboat Springs Health and Recreation Center is offering patrons one free session of swimming tips from the swim team coaching staff. The free sessions will take place from 4 to 5:15 p.m. Mondays and Fridays in October. Swimmers must be able to swim laps continuously. Each additional session is $5 per swimmer. Pilot & Today seeks event information for calendar
The Steamboat Pilot & Today is soliciting information on 2004 community events to include in its 2004 wall calendar. The calendar will feature full color local images taken by staff photographers. The calendar will be distributed Nov. 30 as an insert in the Steamboat Pilot & Today. The deadline for calendar submissions is 5 p.m. Oct. 17. Information can be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org and should include name, date, time and a one-sentence description of the event. Call Suzanne Schlicht at 871-4224 with questions.
‘Tales of Hoffman’ one

The Central City Opera Company’s Opera in the Rockies tour will present an afternoon of scenes from “Tales of Hoffman”; “The Student Prince”; “The Juggler of Notre Dame”; “The Elixir of Love”; and “Vanessa” at 4 p.m. Oct. 19 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. For ticket information, call 870-4414.
