Stamp memorial service is today at high school

A memorial service for Ashley Stamp, a 13-year-old ski racer killed Sunday in an accident at Vail Ski Resort, will be held today at Steamboat Springs High School. The service will begin with a viewing from 9:30 to 11 a.m., followed by a memorial service from 11 a.m. to noon, followed by a community gathering in the high school commons area. A graveside service at Steamboat Springs Cemetery, to take place after the community gathering, will be open to family only.

People attending the service can park at the high school or at a remote lot at Strawberry Park Middle School, with free shuttles transporting people to and from the high school.

“If there are people who feel compelled to come to the memorial service, we’d like them to be here with us,” said Andy Wirth, president of the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club Board of Directors.

All portions of the memorial service will be closed to photography, television cameras and recording devices, with the exception of a family videographer.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Ashley Stamp Memorial Fund, care of Wells Fargo Bank of Steamboat Springs, P.O. Box 774888, Steamboat Springs, CO 80477. Also, the Winter Sports Club is establishing an annual Ashley Stamp Award to be presented to a female J3, J4 or J5 Alpine ski racer.
