Hayden Recreation offers

coed volleyball league

The Hayden Recreation Department is hosting a coed volleyball league. Teams will play at 6 p.m. Wednesdays from Sept. 10 through Oct. 29 at Hayden High School. Those interested in participating should call Lindsay at 276-3741.

Columbine Youth Chorale seeks talented singers

The Columbine Youth Chorale is seeking talented young singers. The children’s choir is open to all interested youths ages 8-14; no experience is necessary. The group meets from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays at the Methodist Church. The choir will present a Christmas program Dec. 13 in collaboration with the Steamboat Springs Youth Orchestra. Call 879-1996.

Chamber Orchestra

looking for musicians

The Steamboat Springs Chamber Orchestra is looking for new musicians. The orchestra will start rehearsals for the 2003-2004 season at 7:15 p.m. Monday in the Steamboat Springs Middle School Band Room. The volunteer group is conducted by Richard Niezen. Library continues

‘It’s a Girl Thing’ series

Bud Werner Memorial Library will continue its book discussion series for girls and women called “It’s a Girl Thing” this fall. The free program is open to girls ages 10 to 13 and a woman of significance in their lives, such as their mother, grandmother, friend or teacher. Each pair will be given a copy of the discussion book to keep. Pairs may sign up for one or two discussions. The program will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Oct. 10, Nov. 7 and Dec. 5 at the library. Advanced registration is required. Call the library at 879-0240 or stop by the children’s desk.

Tickets are on sale for the 11th annual book lovers’ Literary Sojourn to be held Sept. 13 at the Sheraton Steamboat Resort. Five critically acclaimed and award-winning authors are featured in this year’s festival: Tim Cahill, Alexandra Fuller, Maxine Hong Kingston, Gus Lee, and Colum McCann. Museum offers new

child-oriented game

The Tread of Pioneers Museum is offering “Tread” treasure hunts for children. Whenever children visit the museum to tour with their parents, they will be given a map and clues to finding interesting pieces of historical information contained in the museum. When they’ve answered all the questions on their treasure hunt, they can pick a prize.
