Steamboat Emergency Center, a new 24-hour free-standing emergency room, opened Wednesday at 1600 Mid Valley Drive in Steamboat Springs.

Dr. Dallas Bailes purchased the building, a former Staples store, in January for $2.65 million, with plans to open a free-standing emergency room.

"No matter if it's a sprained ankle, suspected flu or life-threatening condition, you can trust the team at our facility to deliver the unmatched, compassionate and dedicated care you deserve," said Director of Nursing Katie Perkins, in a news release.

The board-certified emergency physicians working at Steamboat Emergency Center have a combined 40-plus years of experience, according to the news release.

"We are prepared to handle any emergency that comes through our door,”said Bailes, who also serves as the center’s medical director. “We are committed to doing the right thing when it comes to the care of our patients."

Steamboat Emergency Center is equipped with diagnostic imaging technology, including CT scans, bedside emergency ultrasound, digital radiology and a full clinical laboratory. Visit for more information.
