No other band is more intertwined with the history of reggae than The Wailers. Bob Marley led the band until his death in 1981, and anyone with even a passing interest in Jamaica or its music has heard the band.

More than two decades after Marley’s death, the band continues to tour and record. The Wailers’ lineup had undergone a lot of changes since the ’70s, but early fans still will recognize bass player Aston “Familyman” Barrett, who now leads the band.

With female vocalists and a full horn section, The Wailers of today have a sound that rhythmically echoes the band of the early days but is now more of a slow, soulful cross between ska, reggae and gospel.

But The Wailers know why so many people still come to hear their band and live shows. Despite being full of new music, they always offer a sprinkling of popular tunes such as “No Woman, No Cry” and “Exodus.”
