New member on School Board

AlidaLee Gingerich is the newest member of the South Routt School Board after being appointed last week to fill the seat vacated by Dawn Ford.

Gingerich was selected from a pool of three applicants, Superintendent Steve Jones said. The seven-member School Board began to solicit letters in June from Stagecoach residents who might be interested in the volunteer position. Ford, who was the board’s vice president, stepped down because she was moving from the area.

The School Board chose Gingerich largely because its members liked the idea of having a board member who has children enrolled in the district, Jones said.

Gingerich has two children who attend South Routt schools, he said.

Gingerich will have to stand election in November 2005 if she wants to remain on the School Board. She didn’t immediately return phone calls seeking comment Thursday.

Board members representing the Stagecoach area are being viewed as particularly important by the small rural school district in light of its efforts to secure a school site in the developing residential area. Some estimates suggest 150 school-aged children could live in Stagecoach by 2008.

The importance the Stagecoach area will play in the future of the district necessitates a strong candidate for the vacancy, Jones said in June.

“It’s important Stagecoach be represented by someone who’s really going to participate,” he said.
