Need a seasonal summer job? Friday job fair in Steamboat will feature nationwide opportunities that come with a view

A Steamboat Springs Transit bus cruises through downtown Steamboat.

— A summer job fair hosted by Steamboat Springs Transit on Friday will offer local job seekers the chance to apply for several summer positions that come with a view.

The fair will also help the city's bus service strengthen its recruiting relationships with multiple organizations that send drivers here in the winter.

From driving jobs in Lake Powell, Arizona, to a gondola operating position in Telluride, the summer opportunities are diverse.

Other locales that will be represented at the job fair include Yellowstone National Park, Glacier National Park, Alaska and Breckenridge.

Steamboat Springs Transit regularly recruits winter drivers from the national parks and companies that will be featured at the fair.

"Glacier National Park is really excited to be represented at the fair," SST operations supervisor Tyler Kern said. "They were able to help us staff this winter. We want to return the favor and send them a lot of help."

Kern organized the fair and has been leading SST's efforts to successfully recruit drivers.

The fair also gives SST the chance to provide its winter drivers the chance to find summer jobs.

"This is also wide open for the community," Kern said.

The job fair is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at the Stockbridge Transit Center.

Bus driver recruiting has been a challenge for transit agencies on the Western Slope and across the country.

Kern helped lead local efforts to ensure that successful recruiting relationships led to a full winter driving crew in Steamboat.

When services aren’t fully staffed, transit agencies sometimes have to cut service.

Such was the case in Breckenridge this year when a lack of bus drivers led to a temporary reduction in bus routes early in the winter.
