Mythology Distillery to celebrate the completion of Steamboat Springs campus Saturday
After three years of working to move the Mythology Distillery from Denver to its new home in Steamboat Springs, owner Scott Yeates is ready to throw a party.
“Since last fall, 100% of all our products are produced here and distributed out of here,” Yeates said. “Then this winter, we opened the cocktail bar, we started a tour program and offered different classes and experiences. We had a limited kitchen menu and we were not ready to open the whiskey garden, so that’s the reason for the grand opening. This is the first time the full campus is open.”
Getting to this point has been a more than two-year journey for the award-winning craft distillery that was founded in Denver by Yeates, Scott Burg and Mike Zakhem in 2018. The distillery specializes in crafting unique whiskey blends and distilling layered gins, vodka and other specialty spirits in small batches using the freshest ingredients. Yeates said the business was built on a passion to bring people together to share stories while enjoying whiskey and gin cocktails.
The owners purchased the property at 2875 Elk River Road in November 2021 and began transforming the building of the former Butcherknife Brewing Company into Mythology’s new home. Over the last year, the production facility and rackhouse were completed. The tasting room opened last winter, and the whiskey garden just recently opened to the public.
The restaurant’s menu is inspired by Asian and Mexican dishes that includes small plates such as a cheese quesadilla and charcuterie board, as well as meals like street tacos and dumpling and satay plates.
The celebration will begin at noon Saturday at Mythology and is expected to continue until 10 p.m.
“People got to enjoy it last fall, but now our slides are open and everyone can enjoy a full restaurant experience,” Yeates said. “We also have a bar outside that has a boozy slushy machine, craft cocktails and beer.”
Denver artist Pat Milbery will be in town working on two murals that will grace the side of Mythology’s rackhouse, and there will be live music from Hunker Down from 3-6:30 p.m. while Maude Vaude will offer entertainment from 7-10 p.m.
Mythology will also celebrate the addition of two more awards to its list of 75 accolades. This spring, Mythology picked up awards such as a Double Gold from the San Francisco World Spirits Competition for its Needle Pig Gin, and a Gold for its Thunder Hoof Rye Whiskey. Mythology was also named the best distillery in the state by ColoradoBiz magazine.
“It was just announced that we were named Colorado’s top distillery,” Yeates said. “We’re excited for that. When we were in Denver, 5280 named us top Denver distillery three years and Denver Westword named us top Denver distillery, and now we’re named top Colorado distillery by ColoradoBiz. They’re the only organization that looks at the whole state, so we’re thrilled about it.”
