Mountain lion spotted in Butcherknife Canyon

— Signs have been posted at Butcherknife Canyon warning people that a mountain lion has been seen in the area.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife Area Wildlife Manager Jim Haskins said the lion was spotted Monday night.

He said a woman was walking her dog off leash when the dog took off. When it returned, the woman saw a mountain lion behind the dog. The lion was not aggressive and left after seeing the woman.

Haskins said mountain lions have been spotted in the canyon before.

The trail in the canyon is popular with students at the Soda Creek campus. School is out this week because of Blues Break.
