Mike Friedberg and Alison Levy took top honors in the first of three mogul events at the Rocky Mountain Divisional championships in Steamboat Springs.

Friedberg, a former member of the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, topped the men’s results by earning 24.92 points from the judges.

Winter Sports Club member Eddie Keiser placed second at 24.85, and John Eaton of Team Summit placed third with 24.38 points.

“It was a good day for Eddie (Keiser),” Steamboat coach Erik Skinner said. “He got the points he needed for nationals, and he is definitely headed in the right direction.”

Other top Steamboat finishers included Kyle Ewing in fifth, Michael Casale in sixth, Michael Macomber in 14th, Luke Belz in 16th, Michael Mead in 18th and Jarret Arguelles in 19th.

Steamboat also fared well in the girls opening mogul event, which included close to 50 competitors.

The event was won by U.S. Ski Team member Alison Levy after she scored 23.91 points from the judges. Katie Sullan of Winter Park was second at 22.99, and Katherine Lynch of Team Summit was third.

Steamboat’s Eliza Outtrim finished in fourth place and was followed by teammates Caterina Mader in fifth and Carly Gmeiner in ninth.

“Eliza skied really well,” Skinner said. “I would have liked to have seen her finish a little higher in the final results, but not everybody sees things the same way.”

Skinner also was impressed that Mader, one of the youngest skiers in the field, broke into the top five. The event featured many NorAm and other top-level skiers.

“If she continues to progress and stay involved in the sport, her future is pretty bright,” Skinner said.

The divisional championships will continue at 11 a.m. today with the junior mogul event.

Skinner expects the field to include 105 of the top junior skiers in the region in a two-run competition.
