Middle school hosting tree sale to help build ice-climbing wall

— Proceeds from the sale of cottonwoods, aspens and spruce trees may someday help build an outdoor ice climbing wall at the base of Howelsen Hill in Steamboat Springs.

Local fund-raiser Matt Tredway said he took delivery of a large number of trees last weekend at the Steamboat Springs Middle School for the annual middle school tree drive.

“We’ve got tons of trees,” Tredway said. “We have some awesome trees and we want to sell them as quickly as possible.”

The money raised from the middle school’s fund-raising effort will go to an account set up to build a proposed ice-climbing wall at the base of Howelsen Hill. Another part of the proceeds will go to a local organization called Kidscape that helps identify and complete various landscaping projects (such the medians) in Steamboat Springs.

This is the third year for the fund raising effort has concentrated on the ice-climbing wall and the trees will be sold from $35 to $180 dollars apiece, depending on the size and type of tree.

For more information or to buy a tree, contact Tredway at 871-3568. Middle school students will also working to sell the trees and raise money for the local causes starting this week.
