For families with loved ones dealing with memory loss, dementia or Alzheimer’s disease, a monthly, free Memory Café will kick off 1-2:30 p.m. Monday at Heart of Steamboat United Methodist Church at 736 Oak St.
The goal of a Memory Café is to provide a welcoming, low-pressure location for people with memory loss and their caregivers to take part in interactive activities, ranging from crafts to singing, to promote conversations and share memories.
“The point of the Memory Café is to build a nonjudgemental community with people dealing with memory issues and their caregivers who are in many cases very isolated,” said Memory Café organizer Shani Bohlin, founder of Blue Skies Nursing in Steamboat Springs.
The local Memory Café on Monday will feature a road trip and famous landmark theme. Other upcoming Memory Café dates include July 7 with an Americana theme, Aug. 4, Sept. 8, Oct. 6 and Nov. 3.
Memory Cafés provide a safe, relaxed, welcoming space where participants can engage in themed activities, reminisce and build relationships. To register or for questions, visit Blueskiesnursing.com/event-list or call 970-457-0074. To volunteer with the monthly Memory Café, contact Shani@blueskiesnursing.com.
