STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — A memorial service for former state-champion wrestler and longtime coach and Hayden community member Chad Jones will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Hayden High School gymnasium.

The community is invited to the celebration of life, and organizers are asking any wrestler who was ever been coached by Jones, from peewee through alumni, to meet at 10:15 a.m. in the wrestling room. The plan is to end the service with a closing “pound-out.”

A potluck will be held at the Exhibit Hall at the Routt County Fairgrounds, 365 South Poplar Street in Hayden, immediately following the service. Those attending are asked to bring a side dish or dessert.

There will also be an afterparty and fundraiser at 3:30 p.m. at Yampa Valley Brewing Company to raise money for Jones’ children.

Jones, a 1997 graduate of Hayden High School, died Monday afternoon in his Hayden home. The longtime resident was the head coach of the high school wrestling team since 2012 and was well known for his efforts coaching peewee football and wrestling in the community.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been set up at Mountain Valley Bank in Hayden to benefit Jones’ children PiperJo and Saben Jones. Contributions can also be made on a Gofundme page at GoFundMe.com/chad-jones-memorial-fund. The goal is to raise $10,000.
