Marsha Sanford: Father Wilkins honored

I’ve lived in the Steamboat area for 40 years and never felt the need to write to you until today.

I was moved by the obituary for Father Leon Wilkins, the kindest man I ever met. He “saved” me and my daughters many years ago from an abusive home by providing us with a safe place to live and provided us with physical, emotional and spiritual support.

He never intruded into our lives. Instead, he was there, and we knew it if we needed anything. I can’t tell you how moved I was to see of his passing, but after a few tears, I was so happy to know someone who is in heaven. What an incredible man he was. He will always be in my thoughts with his sweet smile of kindness.

The number of people in this community that he touched are immeasurable. He will be missed.
