Marie Virginia Long

1911-2001

Marie Virginia Long, a longtime resident of Oak Creek and later Colorado Springs, peacefully passed away on May 1, 2001, at the St. George Rehab Center in St. George, Utah. She was born in Creed, Feb. 26, 1911, to Wilfred and Rosalie Moses.

She graduated from Alamosa High School and went on to receive a bachelor of science degree at Colorado State College in Fort Collins.

While teaching in Oak Creek, she met and later married Michael Long. Mike preceded her in death in 1977.



Marie was a well-respected teacher at the high school in Oak Creek for 27 years. Marie enjoyed her children and grandchildren and was an avid reader and bridge player.

After many years of teaching, she spent 18 years as a volunteer at the Penrose Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs.



Marie is survived by two daughters, Marjorie Munden of Lakewood and Karen and her husband, Jerry Coziahr, of St. George, Utah; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and four nieces.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, Rosalie A. Schoser and Michele K. Oxley; and a sister, Alice Sidwell.

Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. May 11, 2001, at the Oak Creek Methodist Church in Oak Creek.

Interment will follow at the Oak Creek Cemetery.

Arrangements have been made by Metcalf Mortuary in St. George, Utah and Peterson Funeral Home in Steamboat Springs. Memorial donations in Marie’s name may be made to SUN Schools Assistant Fund, Guardian Angels School, 1843 West 52nd Ave., Denver, 80221.
