Man suspected of stealing car, possessing drugs

— A 41-year-old man was arrested Wednesday night on suspicion of stealing a car, possessing drugs and introducing contraband into the Routt County Jail.

Hallie H. Blalock’s bond was set Thursday at $2,000.

The car was reported stolen Wednesday morning from American Towing. That night, a Steamboat Springs Police Department officer spotted the car and pulled the driver over on U.S. Highway 40 west of Steamboat.

According to an arrest affidavit, Blalock said the car was a rental, but he did not have a rental agreement.

While searching Blalock’s coat at the Routt County Jail, a sheriff’s office deputy found 11 small baggies containing an unidentified white substance, according to the affidavit. The substance tested positive for containing cocaine, the affidavit stated. Police believed Blalock should not have been in possession of two types of prescription drugs.

He was arrested on suspicion of felony theft, failure to signal, possession of a Schedule-3 controlled substance, felony possession of a Schedule-2 controlled substance with intent to distribute and felony first-degree introducing contraband.
