Man seriously injured in South Routt motorcycle crash
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — A 65-year-old Santa Fe, New Mexico, man sustained life-threatening injuries after crashing his motorcycle Wednesday in South Routt.
Colorado State Patrol Cpl. Jason Shimp said Jay Kingery was traveling northbound on his 2003 Harley Davidson along Routt County Road 27 near mile marker 17, which is between Twentymile Coal Co. and Oak Creek, when he traveled off the road, rolled the motorcycle multiple times and got his leg stuck in a fence.
Shimp said Kingery was flown from the scene by a Classic Air Medical helicopter to Denver Health. Kingery was wearing a helmet, but it is believed excessive speed contributed to the crash.
