Man leads officer on short car chase

Brent Boyer

A suspected drunken driver led a Steamboat Springs police officer on a brief car chase early Sunday morning before being apprehended and arrested.

Bryan Joseph Geier, 35, of Lone Tree, was arrested on a felony count of eluding, as well as on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under suspension, weaving, no registration, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, disregarding a stop sign and failing to use a turn signal, police said.

Officer Gerard Geis was on his regular patrol when he witnessed Geier run a stop sign and fail to use a turn signal at Village Inn Court and Ski Times Square Drive, Officer Garrett Wiggins said.

Geis began to follow Geier, and the officer switched on his overhead lights after Geier turned onto Burgess Creek Road. The suspect then turned off his vehicle lights and attempted to flee from Geis, Wiggins said.

Geier turned into the Storm Meadows Condominium complex, parked his car and fled on foot. Officer Geis was able to catch and arrest Geier, who failed roadside sobriety tests but refused a breathalyzer and blood tests.

Geier was booked into Routt County Jail and later released after posting a $2,000 bail bond.
