Man injured in motorcycle accident

Alexis DeLaCruz

— A man sustained moderate injuries Monday afternoon after the motorcycle he was driving at the base of Rabbit Ears Pass slid out from under him.

Colorado State Patrol Trooper Tonya Cowan did not know the man’s name or where he was from, but she did say that he was taken to Yampa Valley Medical Center to be treated for his injuries.

The accident occurred at 2:30 p.m. Monday near Storm Mountain Ranch, she said.

Steamboat Springs Assistant Fire Chief Bob Struble said he was told Monday that the man had attempted to avoid another car making a U-turn and lost control of his motorcycle.

The motorcycle slid several hundred feet, hit something in the road and then flipped onto its side, he said.

Struble said the man’s injuries were not life-threatening.

The man did not have a passenger at the time of the accident and reportedly was riding with a friend who was on another motorcycle, Struble said.
