Man gets two years for robbery

A 23-year-old Steamboat Springs man was sentenced to two years in prison Wednesday for robbing several men at gunpoint in February.

Jared Dean Justice pleaded guilty to second-degree burglary and robbery, both Class 4 felonies. He was facing two counts of first-degree burglary and five counts of aggravated robbery that were dismissed as part of the plea agreement reached with Assistant District Attorney Kerry St. James.

In addition to the jail time, District Judge Shelley Hill sentenced Justice to pay $508 in restitution to a man who was stabbed with a knife during the robbery, as well as $700 in courts costs and fines. Justice was given a 207-day jail credit for the time he served in the Routt County Jail. When released, Justice will serve a three-year parole.

Justice and 19-year-old Caleb Edward Murphy, of Steamboat Springs, were arrested in February after they robbed four people inside a Westland Mobile Home Park trailer of about $350. Police said the men entered the trailer wearing black ski masks and that Justice showed the people in the trailer a BB gun and demanded they all get on the floor. A fight broke out between the men and the victims, and Murphy cut a man’s hand with a knife during the fight, police said. The man was not seriously injured but was taken to the hospital to be treated for the wound.

Murphy is scheduled for sentencing at 4 p.m. Sept. 26.
