Homeless man found dead in Steamboat bathroom

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — The cause of death is pending for a 66-year-old homeless man whose body was found in a Steamboat Springs bathroom.

Routt County Coroner Rob Ryg was trying to contact the man’s family and did not want to release his name until they were notified.
At about 2 p.m. Tuesday, police were called to check on a suspicious person at an office building in Ore House Plaza.

Police Commander Jerry Stabile said people believed a man was sleeping in a shower located in a common bathroom off the lobby. Police found the man, and he was dead.

Stabile said there were no indications of foul play, and a medical examination will help determine a cause of death. There were no indications of drug activity.

Stabile said the man was not someone who police knew.
