Man allegedly threatens officers

Police say they drew weapons in order to make arrest

— A 22-year-old Grand Junction man was arrested early Thursday morning for allegedly threatening Steamboat Springs police officers with a metal fence post.

Officers were forced to draw their weapons in order to take Rocky Shane Roberts into custody at about 6 a.m. on Pine Grove Road, Assistant Police Chief Art Fiebing said.

Fiebing said he could not release more details about the arrest because officers were still investigating the incident Thursday afternoon.

He said he expects additional information to be available today.

Officers went to the area after receiving a trespassing complaint, Fiebing said.

Once at the scene, officers had to deal with an alleged aggressive and out-of-control Roberts, who police suspect was under the influence of drugs, Fiebing said.

After Roberts was taken into custody, an ambulance took him to Yampa Valley Medical Center, Fiebing said.

According to Steamboat Springs Ambulance, Roberts did not suffer any injuries to his body and was taken to the hospital for a mental condition.

Once Roberts is released from the hospital, he will be taken into custody and booked in to the Routt County Jail, Fiebing said.

Possible charges the man may face include felony menacing, criminal trespass and attempted assault on a peace officer, Fiebing said.
