Main Street Steamboat board: Take downtown vision survey

For the first time in 19 years, the city of Steamboat Springs has undertaken a long-term vision plan for the downtown area. The Downtown Plan gives residents the chance to decide the outcome of future Steamboat Springs in the form of the downtown vision survey.

As a proud, supporting partner of the Downtown Plan, we at Main Street Steamboat Springs encourage all residents to complete the survey and have their say in the final decisions. The Downtown Plan and survey closely tie into the the three goals of Main Street Steamboat — the promotion, protection and preservation of downtown, the heart of the community.

This survey ensures the valued qualities and character of Steamboat are preserved, while simultaneously adapting to the constantly changing trends in lifestyle, commerce, entertainment and recreation. By taking this survey, Steamboat Springs residents are given the opportunity to clearly state their ideal vision of town and provide essential guidance and recommendations for what the future will bring.

The survey will ask various questions regarding topics such as the character of downtown like building and scale, culture and arts and historic  preservation, the quality of the public environment like sidewalks, parks and public gathering spaces, mobility and parking spaces, and finally, housing diversity including attainable housing opportunities for locals. The future uses for downtown will be taken into consideration as well, making inquiries on the subjects of retail, dining, entertainment, office and residential.

If you have questions, comments or recommendations regarding the the downtown vision plan not included in the survey, feel free to send them to Main Street Steamboat Springs at info@mainstreetsteamboat.com.

We’ll be more than happy to take your unanswered questions into account and see to it they reach the right people.

Ultimately, downtown is molded by the decisions made by hundreds of citizens. However, the downtown vision survey allows the individual to have direct influence on the policy direction which will guide the both the private and public sectors of investment and regulation.

The objective of the downtown plan and survey is to determine what we as a community value about the downtown area. It also seeks to uncover what previous and contemporary aspects of downtown have been successful. This information of downtown’s locally valued characteristics and success stories will be implemented in the development of a long-term vision plan as well as the strategies used to achieve it.

The survey can be located at Steamboatsprings.net, EngageSteamboat.net and Mainstreetsteamboatsprings.com. The survey will close on May 11.

Let your voice be heard and help guide the future of downtown Steamboat Springs. Take the survey today.

Sincerely,

Main Street Steamboat Springs board of directors
