Steamboat Springs — The country’s oldest performing arts school is hoping the community will come out and support one of the most popular fund-raisers of the year.

The seventh annual Madness de Vine food and wine tasting is next week. Proceeds from the auction at the event will go to the Perry-Mansfield Performing Arts School and Camp scholarship fund.

About 40 percent of all students at Perry-Mansfield benefit from full or partial scholarships. Officials at Perry-Mansfield hope to assist just as many students next year.

“This is our big fund-raiser of the year,” Madness de Vine Chairwoman Deb Proper said. “This year more than ever it’s imperative that it’s a success.”

Many nonprofit agencies had problems raising money through fund-raisers in the past year. Proper said she hopes the community comes out to Madness de Vine to help the cause.

Ticketholders will ride the gondola up to Thunderhead for the event. Wines will be featured from Italy, Chile, Argentina and the Napa Valley. Hors d’oeuvres will be served to go with each wine.

The event brings out many artists, parents of students at the camp, art patrons and prolific figures connected to Perry-Mansfield.

“To have them all in one place, it’s pretty cool,” Proper said.

The auction includes a Valentine’s Day weekend getaway to the Denver Ballet for the production of “Romeo and Juliet,” a two-night stay at Columbine Cabins, two ski passes and a lot of arts and crafts.
