Lynne Heilbron: ‘Passion’ message

It is hard to imagine how anyone could think that the film, “The Passion of the Christ,” is anti-Semitic.

First of all, the very person we are revering, Jesus himself, was a Jew, as were Mary and Joseph and Jesus’ relatives. Second, you cannot change history, what actually took place.

The Jews were clamoring for the death of Christ. But Jesus suffered and died for every human being who is, was and ever will be. That includes Jews, Catholics, Muslims, protestants, atheists — everyone.

We all put him on that cross, whether we want to admit it or not. His passion was his great gift of love for all humanity and is an example that we must strive to imitate as best we can.

The message of “The Passion of the Christ” is not anti-Semitism. The message is love, forgiveness and compassion.
