Lu Etta Loeber: Photographer’s work appreciated

John Russell is a “rock star.” Yes, I am speaking about the Steamboat Pilot and Today’s amazing staff photographer. Maybe not a rock star in the normal sense but a star nevertheless.

Whether it is a rare eagle perched high above, a wayward bear or a wandering moose, he knows where to look and how to expertly capture his subject in the best form and light.

Today, when I grabbed my paper at the Post Office, there was a wonderful picture on the front page of a dad and his daughter riding down the Alpine slide. With all of the discord and violence in our nation now, this picture made me smile and remember what is important. “Life in the fun lane” for this dad was spending time with his child and sliding down Howelsen Hill — a note to myself.

Thank you, John for your excellent work. Keep the photos and great journalistic writing coming our way.
